Kalamazou-area industrial container services company Polyfab, which operates in both the Kalamazowas industrial and service markets, is looking to expand its footprint in the Midwest.
Polyfab currently operates in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana.
The company recently announced a major expansion of its facility in Michigan with a 2,500 square-foot warehouse, a 1,800 square-mile warehouse and a 300-foot-tall, 4,000-square-foot logistics hub.
Polyfac has a warehouse on the outskirts of Detroit, which it is planning to expand to a 3,000 square-meter warehouse by 2020, according to the company.
Polyfab says it is looking for a warehouse in the Kalampows industrial area in order to serve a large number of customers.
In its first year, the company received nearly $300 million in business from its new warehouse, and the company says that this will allow it to continue expanding its footprint.
“We’re looking to open up new, larger warehouses and logistics hubs in the next couple of years,” said Matt L. Fazio, Polyfab’s CEO.
“We’re hoping to become a hub for a larger volume of container shipping and logistics operations that can support the needs of our customers.”
Polyfab’s warehouse will be the largest facility for container shipping in the state of Michigan.
Polyfab has said it will have capacity to house up to 500,000 containers at the new warehouse.
“Our goal is to be the most efficient, highest-performing container warehouse and logistics hub in the United States,” said John J. Kieffer, CEO of the Kalarmas Port Authority, which owns the port.
“The new warehouse will add to the port’s already extensive network of container ports.
The warehouse will provide a secure, efficient and cost-effective location for our cargo and container services and provide a gateway for our shipping partners to bring our goods and merchandise to our customers in Kalarmans area.”
Kieffer says that the new Polyfab facility will allow the port to support the growth of container operations.
“This will allow us to continue to deliver safe and reliable service to Kalamazans area, which has seen record freight volumes in recent years,” he said.
“Our customers will benefit from the increased capacity we will be able to provide to our shipping customers.”
The Kalamazos Port Authority is already building out a new port-side logistics hub to handle the growing demand for shipping containers, which are used to ship industrial products from factories and to other states.
The new hub will be a 50,000 to 70,000 foot-wide hub with a capacity of 200,000 cars, said Jeff Pachal, the port authority’s director of economic development.
The facility is expected to open in the first half of 2020.
