Industrial coating services and video industrial services have been the most popular industry categories among the 457 visa holders in recent years, according to a new report from the ABC.
Key points: 457 visa holder employment numbers are rising fast, with about half of the 457 visas being held by Australians in this industry: 457 visas have a high turnover rate compared to other industries, with a third of the workforce being new to the workforceSource: The Australian Government 457 Visa DatabaseThe latest data shows 457 visa workers have been at the centre of the boom in the industrial coating industry, with almost half of those holding a 457 visa, more than a third in this sector, according a new ABC Fact Check.
“As well as being highly skilled in many fields, many of these workers are highly educated, and a large proportion are qualified in their fields,” says Michael Rizzo, chief executive of the Australian Industry Group, a business advocacy group.
“There is a lot of competition, and in some industries there are just too many people involved.”
They are a growing, fast-growing industry, and it is going to have to be managed very carefully.
“A recent survey by the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) found almost half the 457-year-olds had been unemployed in the past 12 months.”
The big concern for the sector is that the number of 457 visas is not keeping pace with the number that are being taken up,” Mr Rizza says.”
This has been happening for a long time and it’s a growing problem.
“We’ve got an ageing workforce in this country, and the number is going up.”
It’s a very hard time to be in this business.
“The industry’s boom is set to continue.
In 2016, the number was up to 1.5 million, with 1.7 million holding the 457s.
The figures are a continuation of what has been seen for the past two years, with the numbers increasing in 2017, and 2016.
The latest year for which figures are available is 2017, when 457 visas were up to 565,000.
The AICD report found that more than half of all 457 visaholders were over the age of 55, compared to 45 per cent of all other industries.”
In 2018, the Australian Government announced that 457 visas would be replaced by the Work Permit Scheme, which would allow people to come to Australia for employment and education.”
The more people that apply for a 457, the more they are able to use it, the less people are going to come through the system.”
In 2018, the Australian Government announced that 457 visas would be replaced by the Work Permit Scheme, which would allow people to come to Australia for employment and education.
The Work Permits were introduced in 2021 to help meet the increasing demand for skilled workers, with 457 visa applications up more than 100 per cent since that time.
“Work permits are good, they are good to have for skilled jobs,” Mr Rose says.
But it’s not all positive news for the 457 industry.
According to the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU), the industry’s low wages are also hurting job prospects for many workers.
“People who have gone through the training are finding it very hard to find work in the industry,” Mr Rozario says, adding the industry has been hit hard by the economic downturn.
“You have a very small number of skilled workers who are able and willing to come in and fill in the gaps in the labour market.”
