The company is reportedly preparing to roll out a new suite of software that will work across Microsoft’s own Azure platform, which allows users to use the cloud computing platform to store and access data.
The new software, codenamed “AstroDrive” is being developed for Microsoft’s Azure cloud service, according to the New York Times.
It is being built on the Azure platform as part of a series of updates that are expected to be rolled out in the coming weeks.
“Astro Drive” is expected to launch in early 2018 and will include “a suite of new services for businesses, including a data warehouse for big data, analytics, and analytics and enterprise support,” according to Microsoft.
Microsoft has long offered its own cloud services, but it is now pushing more into enterprise computing.
This is a departure from Microsoft’s previous efforts in the area, which relied on proprietary cloud offerings for many years.
In recent years, the company has invested in open source cloud infrastructure solutions, as well as on its own Azure cloud services.
